When the weather is nice it’s good to get
outside and as the Studio is a short walk
from the river Clyde, that where I head to
Years ago when I worked in the gyms I
trained solely outdoors just to get away
from the gym environment and went out
in any weather including torrential rain and
gales
Sometimes it’s a brisk walk down to the
helipad and back (3 miles), other times I
take a TRX down and fix it to a lamppost
or we do bodyweight and cardio type
exercise, some running, animal movements
or step ups on the blocks
A few weeks ago I was out with Louie who
turns 63 in a few weeks and after a good
warm up I decided to test him on some of
the challenges I used to do down there
First up was the stanks and step ups, where
he ran from one stank to the next touching it
and doing step ups on a high block in between
his time was 11 minutes for 3 rounds, making
up the fastest I’ve had in over ten years
So I decided to give him the burpee long jump
test, it a has a fixed start and end point, so
everyone has the exact same distance to do
and it’s timed. The fastest time ever was 47
seconds and Louie did it in 36 seconds!
There are only a handful of clients who have
got under the 1 minute over a 10 year span,
and a good number that were over the 1 min
I knew he was going to do well but I didn’t
expect 36 seconds (we all have to get back
down to the Clyde now and attempt to break
Louie’s time…)
So, to finish off a great day, I got him to do
some handstand work, it’s fun but difficult
and of course he had to do the best walking
handstand that I’ve seen
You can see the video HERE
Moral of the story today?
No matter how old, too fat, too unfit, a lost
cause, or any other excuses you’re using to
not getting started with some exercise, take
some inspiration from Louie
I should add here that even a year ago or six
months ago, he wouldn’t have been able to
do all that, he’s had to put some work in
If you’re thinking about getting started but
don’t know where to start, get in touch and
I’ll set you up with a two week free trial and
don’t panic, you won’t be doing handstands
unless you really want to 🙂
