Whether you’re vegetarian or not I hope

you enjoy the 13 Vegetarian meals I’ve

put together – under September on the

Studio website

So to go with the recipes I thought you

might like to know the benefits of going

veggie 1 day a week or as it’s often called

‘Meatless Monday’

To get you the facts I had to read a lot

of research – mainly from the US and it

makes interesting reading but our diet

is so similar it applies to us too

what the H am I talking about?

it’s not so much the eating of meat that’s

the problem it’s the raising of the meat

and it’s crippling the environment

why should you care?

you don’t have to but read on for some

mind blowing facts

humans eat 230m tonnes of meat a year

mainly cows, pigs, sheep and chickens

they require huge amounts of food and

water then they emit (fart) methane,

waste and other greenhouse gases

it is claimed that animals are worse for

the environment than cars, planes and

other transport together

Land resources

meat eaters use up 20 times the amount

of land to produce meat compared to

vegetarians

If you go veggie for 1 day a week

over 1 year you will save…

eat 50kg less meat

84,000 gallons of water (feed)

110 kg of grain (feed)

7,700 sq ft of rain forrest

some of the 10bn animals worldwide

15 gallons of gasoline (transport)

181kg of manure

87 sq ft of topsoil

Wow!

That’s not including the benefits to

your health or the devastation to the

ocean

Is it really so hard?

vegetarian meals can be pretty amazing

The meatless monday slogan is a good

reminder to make sure you do it at least

once a week – I love the idea!

You will be doing something good for the

animals, the environment and YOU

I will probably have to do 2 nights as no

way will Ryan go veggie but I don’t mind

and I have an added challenge of making

something so good he doesn’t notice it’s

missing chicken

Oh and the recipes I’ve added have plenty

of protein as well as veggies

let me know how you get on with them!
