I had my mums and babies in earlier this week
we have a great wee routine going now
they are all breastfeeding so I get them to come in a bit earlier
to feed the babies right before they exercise
Why?
It means their boobies aren’t all swollen and sore
and they can do their workout in comfort
However, what happens within 10 minutes of a baby being fed?
Yip, they poo their nappies
and not just their nappies, their clothes too
but I want the mums to get cracking
so… I line the babies up, strip them and change them
the mums love it
and it makes my job erm interesting
seriously, I don’t mind
I have to pick Bodhis poo up all the time
Anyway, I’ve been doing weight and measurements this week
and one of the mums, Avril
said she hadn’t lost any weight
she weighed herself before coming in
her voice was full of disappointment
but I could tell by looking at her
that her body had changed
she looked firmer, neater and slimmer
The scales confirmed that she had only lost a couple of pounds
but her measurements blew her away
7 inches in total she lost
and this was in only 4 weeks!
but why haven’t I lost weight, she asked
and this question is possibly the one I get asked most
if you join a diet club like weight watchers or scottish slimmers
the emphasis is on the scales
in fact, everyone gets fixated on the scales
but if you have great muscle tone and no flabby bits
because you exercise you will weigh heavier
than if your body is all mushy
even if you are a smaller size
In the beginning when you exercise
you are building this lovely lean muscle
that pulls your body in tight
giving you shape in the right places
you will also be burning fat
and depending on the ratio your body is doing this
you may lose weight
stay the same weight
and maybe even put a few pounds on
but you will lose inches
i.e. you will be smaller a dress size smaller perhaps
When I trained Roisin (one of my other mums)
for her wedding she dropped 2 dress sizes
but was heavier on the scales from when she started!
Now, each person is different
which is why I train and manage clients
in a slightly different way to each other
but what would you rather be…
10 stone and a size 12
or 10 stone and a size 10
I know what my answer would be
and the point I’m making is
don’t just rely on the scales
it really is a bigger picture
I’m always looking for more mums for my mum and baby programme
If you know anyone on maternity leave or about to have a baby
it would be great if you could send this onto them
p.s. I don’t know of any other Studio or gym that takes mums and their babies
p.p.s. even if they do exist, they won’t have my nappy changing skills 🙂
